SCP Science was founded in 1980, by George Feilders, in Montreal, Canada, to serve the needs of the inorganic analytical chemistry market. Over the years, the company became renowned in the industry for manufacturing and supplying analytical equipment, reagents and Certified Reference Materials (CRM) for laboratories.
Of late, the high-quality portfolio of the company encompasses sample preparation equipment produced in-house, including block digestion systems such as the DIGIPrep, microwave digestion systems and environmental chemistry analyzers. Furthermore, SCP Science has also been supplying laboratories with matrix standards, specialized chemistry reagents, and graphite, plastic, glass and quartz consumables for the atomic spectroscopy market.
Across four decades, the company grew substantially through the development of extensive internal manufacturing capability, the acquisition of several companies and brands (of which Conostan is an example), and the expansion of its sales and distribution network throughout the world. The penetration into the European markets, for instance, was accomplished with the opening of a warehouse in France to accommodate stock for the European established customer-base.
It was in 2022 that SCP Science joined AnalytiChem – a growing, global group of companies that today integrates seven other businesses, located across Europe, North America and Australia.
The incorporation of SCP Science into the AnalytiChem Group came to be a synergy of knowledge and resources, poised to elevate the standard of service for both customers and the broader analytical chemistry community, and was enabled by the fact that the two entities share the same vision for growth, culture of excellence and market approach.
Marc Molina was Country Manager of SCP Science France before evolving into Managing Director after the integration of the company in the AnalytiChem Group. With a scientific background and a career that expands over 25 years, he started at SCP Science five years ago, with one demanding mission: to develop and lead the operations, the team and business in France.
Concerning the merger of SCP Science with Analytichem, he stated: "I think that the companies acquired by AnalytiChem have been carefully selected as being experienced manufacturers and suppliers of very high quality products, and SCP Science is an example of that. We share the same values and base our business in the pillars that also represent AnalytiChem, such as heritage, production capacity and customer intimacy: we have 45 years of experience in the analytical and chemistry business; we are agile producers in Canada with six units of production, in different areas – chemistry, consumables and instruments – and work with very experienced chemists; and we keep strong customer relationships. We have a loyal client list that we approach with our talented and attentive customer experience team."
Raoul Biskupek, Group CEO at AnalytiChem, explains the strategy behind this acquisition and how SCP Science portrays a fundamental role in the path the Group wants to take. “SCP Science is completely in line with AnalytiChem’s portfolio segments, specifically with regards to materials and environmental.” The Group CEO continues: “At AnalytiChem, we are customer centric – we listen and understand our customers, we stand for ultra-high quality products and we have the ability to do custom products, characteristics that SCP Science demonstrates too. So, my belief is that working together will impact the Group very positively.”
Since the integration, SCP Science and the sister companies have been consolidating collaboration opportunities that leverage the benefits of the global customer base, solidly and progressively. “For the first two years, we maintained our sales activities on the SCP Science products mainly, with an improved focus because we can count on a centralized team that helps with backing tools and services like IT, Marketing or HR. Also, in terms of capacity to better respond to our customer necessities, we can count on the other companies from the Group, especially in Europe. For example, we do work very much with our sister company Chem-Lab in Belgium, as they are our producer for high purity acids”, Marc Molina said.
From a market perspective, this synergy means an offer that is broader and more flexible, giving the current customers a wider range of solutions. In the words of Marc Molina “As we integrate the Group’s portfolio, we add value to our customers, giving them a better response. We are able to offer more products to meet our customer’s needs. For example, last march, at the French conference Labo Lyon, we launched a new platform of blocks, the SNRG block, that was originally not in the SCP Science’s portfolio. It actually was developed by AnalytiChem. This conveys the utility of this cooperation from our customers point of view.”
Raoul Biskupek supports this idea: “Current customers will not only continue to be offered what they have been offered, but they will be getting the opportunity to also find more: their lab reagents and their regular acids or trace metal acids; culture media from bagged or bottled forms to ready to use, triple bagged petri-dishes for wide application ranges up to environmental monitoring of the clean-room.”
The following step of the integration process of SCP Science in the AnalytiChem Group entails the transition of the company brand name. Dictated by geography, the activities in Canada go under the brand “AnalytiChem Canada, Inc.”, since the first quarter of 2024, while the business in Europe, up until now under the brand “SCP Science France”, have become “AnalytiChem France”, as of June 1st.
“Despite the name change, we are still true to our core values and quality legacy and that will always remain.”, says Marc Molina. “The way I see it, we now have very important add-ons allowing us to do more and keep improving: we are a Group with already established companies brought together with a broader experienced team and an established set of customers. We work to take action and bring them better solutions.”
Such resolution validates the fact that AnalytiChem has its foundation in a group of companies with enriched heritages, which will not be lost or diluted, in spite of rebranding adjustments. In fact, it’s AnalytiChem’s DNA that gets enhanced with the collective contribution of the history, experience and expertise of its subsidiaries.
SCP Science France evolved from a “satellite office” of SCP Science to a growing location, strengthening its activity in Europe, and later becoming part of AnalytiChem. But the story doesn’t end here. For the future, Raoul Biskupek expects that the Group “continues to grow and not only through acquisitions but also organically. That’s what we are going after with the new SNRG block, our own trace metal acids, our organic and inorganic standards, our Certified Reference Materials and Life Science ready to use media solutions. We strive to renew and expand the product offering in its content as well as its branding, so that it serves better our global customer base.”
And what can AnalytiChem’s customers expect from the company? The CEO gives assurance: “Our customers can continue to expect passionate people providing them ultra-high quality products. That is our vision going forward. Everybody in the industry needs to have a place to strive in. We will always be the one who has the ability to do the extra thing – the extra quality, the extra label, the extra application… Whatever it is. And when you look at the process in the lab, you, as the user, will get what is the best solution(s) to your application up to the highest accreditation levels.”
That’s enabling your science.
